MEET MARVA

Marva Sletten,

PT, CMPT, CLT-LANA, LMT, Certified Trager® Practitioner

Marva effectively treats a wide range of physical limitations from acute orthopedic conditions to chronic neurological or degenerative disorders.  A Florida Native, Marva graduated from Florida International University with a BS in Physical Therapy. She has spent time in Arizona and California, and later returned to Florida with her husband, Terry. While in California, Marva became interested in mind-body medicine and earned an MA in Counseling Psychology. She became a Certified Practitioner for The Trager Approach®, a mind-body approach to movement and postural awareness in 1999.

Marva became a Certified Lymphedema Therapist in 2010, treating lymphedema, the chronic swelling that can occur as a result of cancer treatment. Marva has earned manual therapy and fitness training certifications. Personally, Marva loves the outdoors and enjoys boating and diving. One of her favorite activities is paddle boarding with her dog Ilka. Marva and Terry also love hiking in Colorado and Arizona.

Marva chose ‘The Nature of Wellness’ as the name of her business to express her belief that fitness and overall wellness can be a way of life rather than a regimented exercise program. Her own wellness program has included hiking, biking, swimming and paddleboarding in addition to more traditional exercise.

Most recently she has developed a regular Pilates practice. Her training in psychology has taught her the power of the mind. She believes that stress management is essential to overall health and incorporates mind-body principles in her approach to therapy and fitness training.

Because she loves the outdoors and finds nature to be a wonderful stress reliever she enjoys incorporating  outdoor activities into therapy and fitness programs whenever possible. She teaches visualization and movement awareness techniques to help reduce stress and anxiety and promote healthy posture and movement patterns
